Malt House
This is the largest ground floor apartment and sleeps five or six. It is cosy and comfortable, with a delightful large open fire. There are French windows directly onto the garden.
Most of the old estates of Cornwall were self-sufficient in their beer and cider-making. It must have helped on the long winter evenings! They would typically have a hop garden and several fields of grist or malt. Lanlawren was no exception. The grist and corn mills were fed by Peakswater and are referred to in the 13th Century records. The original Hop House had a keystone dated 1601.
